ROY, Utah, Dec. 21, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was arrested Saturday after a road rage incident on Interstate 15 in Roy.

A probable cause statement from the 2nd District Court of Weber County said Jeremy Andre Richie Barton, 44, is facing charges of:

  • Aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
  • Reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor
  • Failure to remain at the scene of an accident, a class B misdemeanor

The arresting officer responded to the scene of a crash Friday between a white Ford F-150 and an orange Dodge Challenger on I-15 at mile 338 southbound, the statement said.

“The F-150, operated by Jeremy Barton, fled the scene of the crash before authority arrival,” the statement said. “Barton later called in and stated he was the other involved party in the crash and met to exchange information and fill out a witness statement. During the initial investigation, I was only able to determine that Barton was guilty of leaving the scene of the crash because of the conflicting statement between the drivers.”

The next day, the officer was able to follow-up with multiple witnesses of the crash that stated Barton “recklessly chased down the Challenger and then began swaying between lanes before intentionally striking the Challenger with the intent to cause it to crash,” the statement said.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to Weber County Jail with his bail set at $6,310.

Barton has a criminal history of multiple assaults over the last 10 years, the statement said.
