Woman arrested in South Salt Lake for alleged child abuse

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Jan. 18, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — South Salt Lake police responded Thursday to a request for a welfare check on a child, and arrested a woman the girl said tried to strangle and stab her.

“Six other children were inside the home during the violent incident,” says an arrest document filed by an officer of the South Salt Lake PD.

“One witness informed officers (the woman) had strangled and attempted to stab the victim who is a 15-year-old minor. The victim was able to get away from (the woman) by the time police had arrived. (The woman) was placed into custody.

“The victim was transported to a hospital located in Salt Lake County. I interviewed the victim who stated (the woman) had strangled her over an argument and then attempted to stab her with a knife,” according to the SSLPD officer’s affidavit.

“Given this information and witness information, (the woman) was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.”

The woman, in her 30s, was arrested for investigation of aggravated child abuse, intentionally or knowingly, a second-degree felony; and six counts of a violent offense committed in the presence of a child, a class B misdemeanor.

Gephardt Daily is withholding the woman’s name to protect the privacy of her victims.
