WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Oct., 5, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A pedestrian was critically injured when he was hit by an SUV early Friday morning in West Valley City.

The accident was called at 2:35 a.m., and officers responded to the area of 3500 South and 4800 West.

The victim was struck while in a crosswalk.

“From what witnesses say, it does sound like he was crossing against the light,” Lt. Steve Katz, West Valley City Police Department, told Gephardt Daily.

The victim, described as a man in his early 60s, was struck by a westbound SUV, Katz said. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition, with a head injury. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.

The SUV driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with police.

Katz said factors that contributed to the crash were still being investigated. He noted that the weather was rainy and overcast, but said the investigation is ongoing.
