SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Nov. 20, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 52-year-old man died under suspicious circumstances after an altercation was reported at a South Salt Lake apartment building Tuesday morning.

South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Gary Keller told Gephardt Daily the incident occurred inside an apartment in the area of 3401 S. 200 East at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Officials received a call reporting some type of altercation, and that one man was down, not breathing and unconscious. The man was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Keller added that the victim did not have any visible wounds so, though an initial report indicated that he was stabbed, police cannot confirm that. It’s not clear at this time who reported the incident to police.

Keller said a man and a woman were reportedly inside the victim’s apartment with the victim, and while the woman remained at the scene, the man left the area.

The two are not suspects at this time but police want to speak to the man to gain more information.

“We had two males and a female in an apartment, there was some type of altercation and then the call came in they said that one person was down and unconscious and not breathing, so we’re trying to sort this out at this time,” Keller said. “So right now we’re looking at a suspicious death, we’ve got a lot of varying information of what took place, there’s no indication. The coroner will give us more information.”

Officials received some witness reports that the man left the scene on a bike and others that he fled on foot.

“We really haven’t confirmed where he is at this time or how he left the area,” Keller said. “We’ve talked to the female and we are still trying to sort this out at this time.”

Officials are also working to establish what the relationship was between the three people.

“There’s a lot more to be learned,” Keller added. “We’ve got detectives out, officers, out canvassing the area trying to locate the male that left the area and talk to him, but he would be a witness at this time.”

There is no further description of the man who left the scene.

The deceased man has not been identified pending notification of family.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
