PROVO, Utah, Aug. 25, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is deceased following an officer-involved shooting in Provo Tuesday night.

The incident occurred in the area of 300 N. 900 West in Provo at approximately 10 p.m.

Provo Police Sgt. Nick Dupaix told Gephardt Daily some deputes were trying to make a traffic stop on a 2012 blue Buick LaCrosse that was “making some odd traffic patterns.” The vehicle was slowing down and moving off to the side but then would keep moving, Dupaix said.

“The vehicle ended up fleeing at high speed and our officers did not pursue it,” Dupaix said. The officers noted the vehicle was heading east.

A few minutes later officers spotted that Buick again. “When they ended up trying to make contact with the driver, shots were fired,” Dupaix added. No further information about who fired the shots and how many shots were fired were initially available.

The man was transported to an area hospital but did not survive.

Dupaix said more information will be released later Wednesday morning, including the driver’s identity.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
