Man dies 8 days after brutal beating in Ogden park

OGDEN, Utah, Dec. 5, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The victim in the Nov. 26 aggravated assault at Jefferson Park has died of his injuries. He has been identified as Scott Kaszuba, of Clearfield.

In a statement on Facebook, Ogden police reported that Kaszuba died Sunday of injuries sustained in the assault.

On Nov. 26, officers responded to a report of an assault at the park at 3300 Grant Ave., where they found Kaszuba unconscious. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Officers located suspect Michael Gomez in the park, and took him into custody. Gomez was booked into the Weber County Jail for public intoxication and aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

Ogden Police Investigators are now working with the Weber County Attorney’s Office in amending the charges in this case pending autopsy results, according to the statement on Facebook. Gomez remains in custody in Weber County Jail.

Investigators are still seeking the public’s help in identifying any witnesses who may have had contact with Scott Kaszuba prior to his death. Anyone with information is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Travis Kearl at 801-629-8029.
