SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 41-year-old man who sustained fatal injuries Saturday night while riding a moped near 2100 South and 1100 East has been identified.

The driver of the moped has been identified as Richard Waskiewicz, the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release Monday morning.

Salt Lake City Police Watch Commander Victor Siebeneck said the accident happened at 9:46 p.m. when the Salt Lake County man was riding eastbound on 2100 South. As the man entered the intersection, he collided with a car. Waskiewicz was transported to Intermountain Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Siebeneck said the accident is still under investigation, and its cause is unknown. He said the area is illuminated by street lamps and, because it was already getting dark, visibility may have been limited.
