Bicyclist killed in Cache County crash

CACHE COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 18, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A cyclist died Saturday afternoon on State Route 218 when a car turned in front of him and he collided with the vehicle.

The fatal accident happened around 3:45 p.m., according to a news release from Utah Highway Patrol.

A Buick LaCrosse heading north on SR-218 attempted to turn left onto 6400 North near the town of Newton, the news release states.

A man riding a bicycle was traveling southbound on SR-218, approaching 6400 North.

The driver of the LaCrosse didn’t see the cyclist and turned in front of him, causing the cyclist to hit the passenger side front corner of the car, the news release says.

The cyclist, identified as Derek Steadman, 45, of Preston, Idaho, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Officials released his name after notifying next of kin.
