CORAL PINK SAND DUNES STATE PARK, Utah, June 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An Arizona man is dead following a UTV accident Wednesday night at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., 46-year-old Mark Lynn Allred from Cottonwood, Arizona, was riding a Utility Terrain Vehicle at the northern end of the sand dunes when the accident occurred, said a news release from Utah State Parks.

The UTV Allred was operating is believed to have been the only vehicle involved in the incident, officials said.

“Following the accident, witnesses administered CPR to Allred while others called for help,” the news release said. “Utah State Parks rangers and Kane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area to assist.”

Responders declared Allred dead at the scene, officials said. Emergency medical services were dispatched out of Kane County but were canceled before they arrived.

There was one passenger also riding in the UTV at the time of the accident. That individual self-transported themselves for medical evaluation.

Allred was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

At this time officials do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash.

The incident remains under investigation, officials said.

“The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the family and friends impacted by this incident,” the news release said.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is located between Mount Carmel Junction and Kanab.
