WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Nov. 4, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead after being struck by a pickup truck Saturday night at 3600 West and 3100 South.
West Valley City Police Lt. Amy Maurer said police were called at 8:50 p.m. to the scene of the auto-pedestrian accident and, upon arrival, found that a vehicle had hit an adult male.
West Valley City Fire personnel arrived and declared the man deceased.
The victim was in the crosswalk at the intersection of 3600 West and 3100 South, when he was struck by the eastbound vehicle, Maurer said.
The driver of the pickup remained on scene and was talking with officials.
Maurer said the incident is still under investigation and officials are interviewing several witnesses.
“It’s still early in the investigation,” Maurer said, “and we have a lot of information to gather.”
She said it would take time for officers to talk with everyone and confirm that all of the information is correct. They were also in the process of identifying the victim and notifying family members.
The area was closed to traffic on 3100 South from 3450 West to 3600 West while investigators were on scene, and Maurer said they would probably be working there for several hours.
Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
