FARMINGTON, Utah, June 21, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 23-year-old man has died in a drowning accident in Farmington.
According to the Davis County Sheriff’s Department, the victim was with a group of friends who were rope-swinging into Farmington Pond at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Witnesses told deputies the man — whose name has yet to be released — was attempting to swim across the pond when suddenly he went under and never resurfaced. His friends were unable to find him.
Investigators say the water temperature of the pond was deceptively cold and hypothermia may have played a role in the drowning.
Search and rescue teams looked for the man, and just after midnight, located him in the water. Medical technicians gave the man CPR, but were unable to save him.
Farmington Pond is about 30 feet deep, and is located northeast of the Lagoon amusement park.
