SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 29, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man allegedly trying to buy marijuana escaped serious injury after being shot in the head in a parking garage in Salt Lake City on Sunday afternoon.

Salt Lake City Police Department spokesman Lt. Russ Amott said the incident occurred in the parking garage under the Gateway Mall at 400 W. 100 South just before 1 p.m.

Amott said when the victim arrived, a black male adult approached him, produced a gun and a struggle ensued. The victim was shot and sustained a minor wound to his head.

The victim exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

The suspect took the vehicle, a silver Infiniti G37, with the victim’s cell phone still inside.

Amott said police initially thought the suspect had remained in the parking garage, so they set up a containment in the area, but they later determined the man had fled following the shooting, and the containment was lifted.
