MORGAN, Utah, Dec. 30, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man fell into the water while ice fishing at the East Canyon State Park reservoir in Morgan Saturday morning.

A Facebook post from the park said the north end of the reservoir only froze over Saturday and anyone going out on the ice is advised to use caution.

Officials said a group went ice fishing and were on their way back to the shore when the man fell through the ice, which was only an inch thick, at approximately 10 a.m.

Another man from the same party jumped in and tried to help, but was only able to get himself back out, not the man that had fallen in first.

A member of the group then called the park ranger’s office, and Ranger Chris Haramoto was able to rescue the man using a rope.

When he was rescued, officials said he was losing his fine motor skills and had trouble grasping the rope.

The man spent about 10 minutes in the water, officials said.

The man warmed up in a cabin nearby and an ambulance was called as a precaution. The man was checked out by medical personnel but was unhurt.
