LAYTON, Utah, Dec. 20, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have a suspect in custody after a 24-year-old man was fatally shot in Layton Monday morning.

Layton Police Department detectives booked Christopher S. Fritz, 19, into the Davis County Jail for one count of murder Monday evening. Fritz lived in the home where the incident occurred, said Layton PD in a news release.

Taylor Vancamp was found deceased inside the residence in the area of 1400 E. 275 North, the news release said.

Sgt. Clint Bobrowski said a 911 call came in from the address at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Bobrowski said the 911 phone call was received from a person in a basement of a home who said he heard a rapid succession of gunfire upstairs, then went upstairs and found a man he believed to be deceased.

“Upon arrival, we contacted the caller and two other adults, one male and one female, that were upstairs, they were all co-operative with us and subsequently have been taken to the police department, and are being spoken to,” Bobrowski said.

“We made entry into the home, to locate the victim,” Bobrowski added. “He was upstairs deceased, we did see signs of a shooting that had occurred inside of the home.”

Detectives have learned that at some point during the early morning hours, a physical altercation took place between Vancamp and Fritz, and during that altercation several gun shots were fired inside the residence. Fritz was one of the three that was in the home when police arrived.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence which was served Monday.

This is an active investigation and more information will be added as it becomes available.
