Man found dead after Salt Lake City apartment fire

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man’s body was discovered after an apartment fire in Salt Lake City on Sunday morning.

Lake City Fire Department Capt. Adam Archuleta told Gephardt Daily crews were dispatched to a call of a fire at an apartment at 1729 N. Beck St. at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Archuleta said that on arrival, there were no smoke and flames visible.

Crews had to force entry into the apartment, where a deceased 51-year-old man was found.

Salt Lake City Police Department tweeted at noon the fire was accidental.

The deceased has been identified as Jim Kavoukas, 51. “Mr. Kavoukas was alone at the time of the incident,” the tweet said.
