ALPINE, Utah, June 8, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) -- A 40-year-old man who was rappelling in the Three Falls area above Alpine has been rescued and transported to an area hospital after he lowered himself into brush and a branch or stick went through his upper thigh.

The call came in at about 10:20 a.m. Sunday, Sgt. Raymond Ormond, Utah County Sheriff's Office, told Gephardt Daily.

"He was not going to be able to get out under his own power," Ormond said.

"Our Search and Rescue responded, and also Lone Peak Fire Department and Life Flight. Our rescuers made it up into the area where the individual was and Life Flight was able to come in with a hoist and pick the person up off of the side of the mountain and transfer them over to a waiting ambulance."

That happened at about 11:20 a.m., Ormond said, "so the male should be at this point at the hospital receiving care for his injuries."

The injured man was transported in serious but stable condition. Ormond said he does not believe the man fell, but rather rappelled onto the stick. "There's a lot of thick vegetation there," he said.

The man's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Ormond said.
