SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he was hit by a Trax train late Monday afternoon.

The man was wearing headphones and was apparently distracted. He failed to see the northbound train coming into the Ballpark station at 1300 South, according to Carl Arky, spokesman for Utah Transit Authority.

The train was slowing as it neared the station, but was probably traveling about 15-20 miles per hour.

Arky told Gephardt Daily the man was reported to be in critical condition, but was conscious, alert and breathing as first responders arrived on scene and transported him to Intermountain Medical Center.

The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m., and Arky said a bus bridge for commuters was established from 9th South to Salt Lake Central.

“Southbound Trax is still operating,” he said at 6 p.m. “Northbound has been closed, but we expect to be starting northbound service again soon.”

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
