SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 8, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition overnight Tuesday after police say he was involved in some type of altercation at Sunrise Metro Apartments.

Lt. Dave Cracroft, Salt Lake City Police Department, said a call came in at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday reporting that a man had been injured in “some kind of fight or assault.”

Officers and emergency personnel arrived at the apartment building, at 580 S. 500 West, to find the man had been severely beaten and “blood was all over,” Cracroft said.

The victim’s name and age were not immediately available, but Cracroft said the man is “50-ish.”

The injured man was transported to University Hospital in very critical condition.

The man who called the police was taken into custody to be interviewed at the Public Safety Building. Detectives hadn’t had a chance to speak with him, so it wasn’t known what precipitated the violent incident.

Cracroft told Gephardt Daily that detectives would probably be on scene and gathering evidence for another six to eight hours.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information is made available.
