SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Oct. 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 40-year-old man is in critical condition after being stabbed at a 24-hour smoke shop in South Salt Lake in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Matt Oehler told Gephardt Daily officials responded to the area of 3300 S. State St. at approximately 5:30 a.m. A man who had been stabbed in the abdomen entered a Subway and asked for help, Oehler said.

The victim said he was stabbed at Smokin’ on State tobacco and vape shop at 3149 S. State St. He didn’t say whether he was stabbed inside or outside the shop, and he did not give a description of his assailant.

The man was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital in critical condition.

At this time it appears there were no witnesses to the stabbing. Officials are reviewing footage from both inside and outside the store.

Oehler said the man has not been forthcoming with information and investigators do not believe it was a random attack. He said there is no danger to the public.

Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to call South Salt Lake Police at 801-840-4000.
