WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Jan. 9, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Valley City man was literally in the doghouse Saturday after he allegedly tried to burglarize a home.

West Valley City Police have the man in custody after he allegedly crawled through a dog door at 5705 Cliffhaven Lane.  When he found himself in an adjoining dog kennel, he couldn’t get out and fell asleep.

WVC Police Sgt. Justin Wyckoff said the homeowner called 911 around 6 a.m. Saturday when he awoke to the sound of barking. When the homeowner found the 35-year-old suspect snoozing, he grabbed his gun and pointed it at the man.

Wyckoff said the homeowner told the suspect: “I’m scared. I’m going to point this at you until the cops get here.”

When police arrived, the suspect told them he thought he was entering his brother’s house. Police believe he was under the influence, although nothing was found on him.

The suspect was taken to jail on a burglary warrant, and at this time, is likely to face a charge of trespassing—a third degree felony. Other charges have yet to be determined.

We will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
