SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police officers and SWAT personnel responded to a report of a man making threats with a firearm Friday afternoon.

The incident began at about 4:15 p.m. when a man was reported to be making random threats in the area of 2200 East and 3900 South, Unified Police Detective Mallory told Gephardt Daily.

As police arrived, the man entered a home and barricaded himself inside.

Mallory said an older woman, who is a family member of the suspect, was in the house at the time. The woman was afraid to come out of the house because she didn’t know what might happen, but she was not being held hostage, Mallory said.

At about 6:40 p.m., negotiators were able to talk with the man, and he finally came outside.

The man’s name was not immediately released, but he was later booked into Salt Lake County Jail, and officials identified him as Alan McGillis, 49.

McGillis is facing charges of:

  • Aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
  • Threat-use of dangerous weapon in fight, a class A misdemeanor

The area of 3900 South from 2100 to 2300 East was closed to traffic during the incident but has since reopened.
