RIVERTON, Utah, Aug. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is in custody after a SWAT situation in Riverton early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Unified Police Department Sgt. Melody Gray told Gephardt Daily James Michael Dansie, 34, has been booked into jail on one count of threats of violence and three counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child.

Gray said police received a call from Dansie’s estranged wife at approximately 1:30 a.m., reporting threats made by him against her, himself and the couple’s three children.

Officials responded to a home in the area of 13400 S. 5200 West, where Dansie was with the children, ages 10, 8 and 5.

Gray said officials made the decision that SWAT should respond rather than regular officers, as it was believed Dansie may have been armed. SWAT arrived and made contact with the suspect. He was safely taken into custody at approximately 6:30 a.m. and the children were not injured.

13400 South was shut down between 5200 West and 5600 West, but has since reopened.

Gray said it’s not clear yet whether Dansie was armed.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
