HURRICANE, Utah, April 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man underwent emergency surgery Saturday after police say he was shot during a dispute at a residence near 3700 West and 165 North.

Officers were dispatched at about 4:30 p.m. on a report of a man being shot in the stomach, according to a news release from the Hurricane Police Department.

Apparently, the man was involved in a custody/domestic dispute with several other people in the residence, the release states.

Police say the man who was shot was holding something in his hand and lunged at another man during the argument. The second man thought the man was holding a weapon, so he pulled out a handgun and shot him once in the stomach.

The wounded man was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center, where he had surgery. No information has been released regarding his condition.

The investigation is in the early stages, and officials were still on scene collecting evidence and talking to witnesses late Saturday evening.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information is made available.
