SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is in serious condition after he was found unresponsive in a Motel 6 room that was on fire Sunday morning.

Salt Lake City Fire division chief Ryan Mellor told Gephardt Daily crews responded to a call that someone was barricaded into a room at the Motel 6 at 1990 W. North Temple and the room was on fire, just after 11:05 a.m.

When crews arrived, “it was obvious something was going on,” Mellor said, and so crews forced the door of the room in question.

An unconscious man was found in the room, Mellor said. The man was revived and transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

The blaze in the room was quickly extinguished and caused very little damage to adjacent rooms.

Mellor said the situation could have been much worse if they had not been alerted so rapidly; he said crews most likely saved the man’s life.

The incident is under investigation and at this time, it’s not known how the fire was set or by who, or who alerted officials.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
