SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City man has been booked into jail on charges of crimes against minors after a tip came in from Internet provider Google.
Gustavo Briseno, 54, was booked on suspicion of 10 charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
Also listed as a charge, without classification, is the demand for forfeiture of property.
Each exploitation charge is related to an image — of an adult male interacting with a prepubescent female or male — found in Briseno’s possession, a probable cause statement says.
“Between, on, or about October 13, 2017, and April 25, 2018, in Salt Lake County, State of Utah, in that the defendant, Gustavo Briseno, knowingly produced, possessed or possessed with intent to distribute, child pornography or intentionally distributed or viewed child pornography,” the probable cause statement says.
Google reported to the Utah ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Task Force that a Google user was suspected of uploading child pornography, the statement says.
“Agents identified the user as Gustavo Briseno,” it says.
“On April 25, 2018, an interview was scheduled with Briseno, who voluntarily came to the Utah Attorney General’s Office for the interview. Briseno was given Miranda warnings, indicated he understood his rights and signed a waiver of those rights.
“Post-Miranda, Briseno admitted he has had a problem with child pornography for some time and had been looking at child pornography as recently as four weeks ago,” the statement said, adding “‘there were approximately 90 videos of child pornography on his phone.'”
The charges related to 10 images were only representative of the material contained in the phone, the statement says.
Briseno’s bail was set at $100,000.
“Gustavo Briseno is suspected of downloading and distributing child pornography,” the statement says. “His behavior demonstrates that he poses a risk to the community.”
