GRAND COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was killed after the vehicle he was traveling in slid down an embankment on Interstate 70 in Grand County then rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its top Wednesday morning.

“At approximately 9:10 a.m., a white Chevrolet Malibu with Utah plates with two male occupants was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 at mile marker 223, about seven miles from the Colorado/Utah state line,” said a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The vehicle ran off the roadway to the left and the driver then overcorrected, the news release said.

“The vehicle crossed both eastbound lanes of travel and ran off the road to the right,” the news release said.

One occupant was ejected during the incident and died at the scene. The other was transported to a hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado with minor injuries. Officials did not say which of the men was driving the vehicle, or if they were wearing seat belts.

The deceased man has not been identified pending notification of family.

Speed and alcohol are suspected to be factors in this crash, the news release said.
