
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 30, 2025 — Police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred Thursday night in downtown Salt Lake City.
First responders were dispatched to a "traffic accident with injuries" at 500 South State Street at 11:35 p.m. When they arrived, they found a man lying in the northbound lanes of traffic in front of the Salt Lake City-County Building.
"According to the preliminary investigation, a 46-year-old man was crossing State Street north of the intersection, outside the crosswalk, when a northbound SUV hit him," SLCPD reported in an early morning news release.
"Despite efforts to save him, the 46-year-old man died at the scene. His name is not being released until his family is notified."
The SUV’s driver and three passengers remained at the scene, along with another driver who witnessed the crash.
"Based on the preliminary investigation, the SUV had a green light to travel through the intersection.
"Officers did not see any signs that the driver was impaired."
The SLCPD news release says the driver involved cooperated with officers.
"Detectives have not made any arrests or issued any citations."
