JUAB COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 2, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 27-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon when the commercial dump truck he was driving was struck by a train in the area of Sheep Lane Drive, south of Nephi.
According to a news release from Juab County Sheriff Douglas Anderson, deputies responded at 1 p.m. on the report of a train hitting the truck.
The truck was heading west on Sheep Lane Drive when it was struck by the northbound train.
The truck’s driver, David Stubbs, 27, of Mona, Utah, was deceased when deputies arrived. Stubbs was a driver for Taurus Plumbing and Excavating in Nephi.
“The train crossing does not have crossing arms or warning lights, and there have been no significant incidents on this crossing for many years,” the release states.
Four people who were on the train were not injured, “but were visibly shaken.”
The train consisted of three locomotives and three empty cargo cars.
The incident is still under investigation, and the exact cause has yet to be determined.
