NIBLEY, Utah, Sept. 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah man was sentenced to prison Monday after pleading guilty to the first-degree felony aggravated arson of his mother’s house in Nibley.
Christopher L. Lescoe, 34, was sentenced by a Cache County judge to one to 15 years in the Utah State Prison.
According to a probable cause statement, Lescoe was driving his mother’s car on March 3 of this year, in Logan, when he was involved in a hit-and-run crash. Lescoe returned to his mother’s residence, near 3000 South and 1000 West, that evening, and locked himself into the house.
Lescos’s mother called his brother, says a statement filed by a detective with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
“Law enforcement were called to the scene, and Chris went into his mother’s house and began to move furniture around to barricade himself in the house,” the statement says.
Lescoe reportedly talked to his girlfriend in a video call.
“His girlfriend told me she could see Chris had barricaded the house, cut his arm with a knife, causing him to bleed, and he started the house on fire in an attempt to kill himself,” the statement says.
Lescoe later exited the house through the garage. He was treated for smoke inhalation and the cut to his arm, and transported to Logan Regional Hospital for further medical treatment and for a mental health evaluation.
Firefighters put out the flames.
“The main floor had heavy burn, smoke and water damage,” the statement says. “The upstairs floor, along with all of the items on this floor, were completely burned.”
Lescoe has previous convictions on drug, weapons and criminal mischief charges.
