WEST JORDAN, Utah, June 6, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a suspect they say shot a man in the neck in a West Jordan road range incident, then led officers on a dramatic high speed chase across Salt Lake and into West Valley City on Monday afternoon.

The West Jordan Police Department on Monday night identified the man taken into custody as Joseph Granados, 33, of West Valley.

The suspect’s car was first spotted by police in the vicinity of 700 S. 1300 West around 6:30 p.m., a little more than two hours after the initial incident.

The suspect took off, leading officers on a chase through sometimes heavy traffic at speeds nearing 100 mph. He managed to avoid tire spikes at one location and a pit maneuver at a second.

The suspect was ultimately chased down on foot by a patrol officer after bailing from his car near 4800 W. 4800 South.

West Jordan Police Lt. Richard Bell said the chain of events started at approximately 4:15 p.m. when a man forced another man off the road and fired multiple rounds into his car near 7800 South and Grizzly Way.

“When our officers arrived they found that two vehicles were headed southbound, a red or maroon passenger car and a silver Chrysler 300,” Bell said. “Some sort of altercation happened and the red car rammed into the Chrysler 300 and then multiple shots were fired from the red car to the 300.”

Bell said the 300 was hit multiple times, as were some nearby houses, but he was unsure how many bullets were fired.

“The victim was shot in the neck but his injuries are not life threatening,” Bell said. “He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.”

The West Jordan Police Department identified Granados as the man taken into custody in the statement, released at 10:45 p.m. Monday.

The statement said that Granados would be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on multiple felonies to include attempted homicide charges.
