SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police in Salt Lake are investigating an apparent drive-by shooting on the city’s southwest side.

SLCPD Lt. Bill Robertson told Gephardt Daily a lone male was walking in front of a home at 4045 W 5500 South about 9:20 p.m. when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire.

When police arrived they found the victim suffering from a severe leg wound.

Robertson said officers used a tourniquet to stem the bleeding until medical personnel could arrive.

The victim was rushed by ground ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray where he was listed in serious condition as he was being wheeled into surgery.

Investigators say they have a good description of the suspect vehicle and hope surveillance video from nearby businesses will help identify the shooter or shooters.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information become available.
