BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, May 25, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A man struck and killed by a car on the freeway while he was inspecting his own vehicle just moments after losing control and sliding off the road has been identified.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said Allen W. DeVaul, 50, of South Jordan, was driving a 2006 white Toyota Sienna van, with his wife and her sister, south on I-15 just before 2 p.m. near milepost 398 when he lost control in the rain and slid off the freeway.

Royce said the man got out of his vehicle and was taking photos when the driver of a silver 2012 Toyota Corolla, also traveling south on I-15, lost control and spun into the median where DeVaul was standing.

“Unfortunately, he was struck by the car and suffered fatal injuries,” Royce said.

No one else was injured.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing and it is not known if any charges will be filed.
