Man struck, killed after initial I-15 collision in Farmington

FARMINGTON, Utah, Jan. 8, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A man in his 80s sustained fatal injuries late Thursday night when he left his car after a relatively minor two-car collision and was struck by a third vehicle.

The accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Interstate 15 , a statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety says.

The victim was driving blue Camry northbound, and was struck from behind by silver Nissan, which was also northbound, near milpest 323.

“The Camry Spun into the HOV lane, and the driver of the Nissan pulled into the right-hand emergency shoulder,” the statement says.

“The driver of the Camry, a male in his 80s, exited his vehicle and ran across the freeway towards the Nissan. The man was struck by a Honda Crossover that was traveling northbound.”

The victim died from the impact, the statement says. His name has not yet been released.

No other drivers were injured.

I-15 was closed at 200 west for approximately three hours for the investigation.
