WEST JORDAN, Utah, Nov. 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a woman who reported she had been assaulted by him told police he also had a weapon — but it turned out to be an Airsoft gun.

The alleged domestic incident took place in the parking lot of an Exxon gas station at 3731 Jordan Landing Blvd. just before 3 p.m.

Officer Scott List, West Jordan Police Department, told Gephardt Daily: “We got a report initially of a domestic incident where it was reported to us by the female party that she had been pushed down and assaulted. She told us out of caution that the male party who assaulted her had a firearm on him, however it was not used in their argument. We later found him in the area and we did find an Airsoft gun on him but it was not used ever and she said that the reason she told us about the firearm was because he has threatened to use it against police in the past. I don’t know that she knew whether it was real or not.”

The man was taken into custody without incident and will be interviewed by police.

List said because the incident happened in the area of a gas station parking lot with numerous cameras, officials can use footage to help establish exactly what occurred.

He added the man does have a criminal history but the details of that history are not clear at this stage.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
