SANDY, Utah, Dec. 2, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police were dispatched to an auto-pedestrian accident on 9000 South in which a man sustained critical injuries late Saturday night.

Sgt. Jason Nielsen, Sandy Police Department, told Gephardt Daily a 911 call reporting the incident came in at about 10 p.m. A man was crossing northbound at about 130 West and 9000 South when he was struck by a westbound Honda Civic.

The man was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition with injuries “mostly to his upper extremities — his head and shoulder area,” Nielsen said, adding that his condition has since been upgraded to stable.

The man was outside of the crosswalk in a dark area, and a witness to the incident told police the man tripped over the median and was struck as he was falling, Nielsen said.

The Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team was on scene to help determine exactly how the accident occurred.
