Man assaulted with chain in attempted robbery in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect who allegedly assaulted a victim with a chain in an attempt to steal money is in custody, officials said.

Nicholas Lewis, 26, was booked into jail for aggravated robbery, the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release.

The incident occurred in the area of 755 W. North Temple St., opposite the Red Iguana restaurant, Sunday at approximately 6:45 p.m., the news release said.

“A man was approached by a male who assaulted him with a chain in an attempt to get money,” the news release states. “The victim was able to fight off the suspect who was located a short distance away by arriving officers.”

Both men suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals to be treated.

The victim was not identified by police.
