TOOELE, Utah, Nov. 25, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Authorities found a man’s body in a freezer in a Tooele apartment after locating a deceased 75-year-old woman on a bed in the same unit.
Tooele County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jeremy Hansen said an officer responded to the Remington Park Apartments, at 495 W. Utah Ave., Friday at approximately 11 a.m. on a welfare check . An employee had requested a check on the woman, who had not been seen for roughly two weeks, Hansen said.
“The officer arrived and made contact with the maintenance employee, the maintenance employee let the officer into the room,” Hansen said. “When the officer entered he found the 75-year-old female deceased on her bed.”
A detective then responded and began processing the scene.
“When he looked into a deep freezer, or chest freezer, he located an unidentified adult male deceased inside the freezer,” Hansen said.
Foul play is suspected in the death of the man; both bodies were transported to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner to determine cause of death.
Detectives said the man’s body had likely been in the freezer between 18 months and 11 years. His body was fully intact, Hansen said. Officials said other residents in the complex did report seeing a man at the apartment in question, but each person gave a different timeline as to when that might have been. “We truly don’t know at this point how long he’d been in the freezer,” Hansen said.
There was no visible trauma on the woman, who has been identified as Jeanne Souron-Mathers.
