MIDVALE, Utah, Feb. 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police officials are searching for a suspect who broke the glass door of a food market in Midvale in a botched robbery attempt Tuesday night.

Unified Police Department spokesman Lt. Brian Lohrke told Gephardt Daily the incident occurred at the Vinh Long Oriental Food Market, at 119 W. 7200 South, at 8:15 p.m., approximately 45 minutes after the market had closed for the night.

The owner was standing near the front of the market by the register when she heard a crashing sound at the market’s front door, Lohrke said.

She was confronted by a man wearing dark clothing and carrying a large hammer which he had used to break the front door.

When the owner began screaming at the suspect, Lohrke added, the intruder turned and ran to the parking lot, getting into a silver SUV and heading west on 7200 South. It’s not clear whether he was the driver of the SUV or someone else was driving.

The man did not manage to steal anything during the robbery attempt, Lohrke said.

The suspect is described as wearing all dark clothing including a mask and gloves, but there is no description beyond that.

Anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or has any further information is asked to call the UPD confidentially on 801-743-7000.
