SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 5, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake Police booked a suspect for aggravated robbery after he entered Big Daddy’s Pizza wrapped in a large white garbage bag and swung a metal pole at the cashier before fleeing on foot in the early hours of Monday morning.

The cashier and three other employees chased the suspect, Curtis Sims, 36, until police were able to intercept him nearby, the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release.

The incident occurred at the pizza delivery shop at 470 S. 700 East just before 1:45 a.m., the news release said.

Sims allegedly entered the business, approached the cashier and asked for money, the news release said.

“Sims then produced a large metal pole and swung it at the cashier, striking him in his hand,” the news release said. “He swung again at the cashier, but missed. The cashier alerted the other employees, and three other employees came from the back kitchen to confront Sims.”

Sims then fled the establishment, the statement said

Employees pursued the man northbound on 700 East and the cashier was able to keep up with the suspect and continued to pursue him until the suspect was taken into custody by officers in the parking lot of 400 S. 700 East.

Sims was transported to jail where he was booked for aggravated robbery.

The cashier was not injured, police said.
