TOOELE, Utah, Dec. 7, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Tooele High School instructor provided by the U.S. Army has been charged with raping a female student.
Brian Joseph Dragon, 32, of Herriman, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with three counts of first-degree felony rape. The charges are punishable by up to life in prison.
Dragon, who was booked into the Tooele County jail on Saturday, will make his initial court appearance Jan. 3.
A news release from Tooele City Police Department said the victim reported to detectives she had been sexually abused by Dragon, an instructor at Tooele High School.
Dragon was provided by the U.S. Army to the high school as a Students Taking Active Roles (STAR) Instructor, the news release states. Although Dragon was an instructor at the school, the Tooele County School District has confirmed that he was not a district employee.
The news release said the Tooele High School resource officer was contacted by the principal of the school on Dec. 2 after the student came forward reporting suspicious behavior by Dragon.
After receiving this information, the school resource officer consulted with Tooele City Police detectives, who initiated an investigation on the allegations.
On Dec. 3, detectives arrested Dragon and booked him into the Tooele County Jail for three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old.
At this time, no additional victims have been discovered, however, this case remains an ongoing investigation and police are continuing to work with the Tooele County School District and the Tooele County Attorney’s Office.
