CACHE COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 12, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Millville man lost his life Tuesday afternoon when his motorcycle overturned on State Route 165.

Vern Monson, 67, was riding his 2009 Harley Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle southbound on SR-165 near mile marker 8, when he pulled into the left-turn lane to go east onto 3100 South, according to a Utah Highway Patrol news release.

Monson stopped to let traffic pass by, then accelerated to make the turn.

“Witnesses say the vehicle went onto two wheels part way into the turn, then overturned, crashing into the curb and into a rock garden next to the sidewalk,” the release states. “It appears that he may have popped the clutch or otherwise accelerated too quickly into the turn.”

Monson, who was wearing leather chaps but no helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained severe head trauma. He was flown by helicopter to Logan Regional Hospital, where he died.

It was reported that Monson’s 43-year-old son was riding a motorcycle behind him at the time of the accident.
