Officials searching for missing swimmer near Newton Dam

CACHE COUNTY, Utah, June 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials are searching for a swimmer who may have drowned near Newton Dam in Cache County Saturday evening.

A news release from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office said the 35-year-old man was swimming at approximately 7:45 p.m. when the group he was with noticed they could no longer see him.

Officials responded and searched the area until approximately 2 a.m. That search was set to resume early Sunday morning, the news release said.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by its Search and Rescue team and the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team.

Officials said the man’s name will not be released until his family has been notified.

Newton Dam is approximately 10 miles west of Richmond.
