MOAB, Utah, March 6, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two teenagers killed in a car crash outside Moab while returning from prom night have been identified by police.

Taylor Bryant, 14, and Connor Denney, 16, both of Moab, were pronounced dead at the scene, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday morning.

The news release said that just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday, a 2003 Subaru Impreza with five teenage occupants lost control and crashed on the Lasal Loop Road (SJ County Rd 127) just south of Ken’s Lake in northern San Juan County.

The vehicle rolled several times ejecting three of the five occupants. Bryant and Denney were ejected and died at the scene. The third victim ejected, Daniel McCrary, 17, of Moab, was flown to a hospital outside the area. The other two occupants, Gage Moore, 17 and Tierney DeMille, 14, of Moab, were not ejected but were also flown to a hospital. All three are in critical condition.

Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors to the crash.

Four of the students, including the two killed, are from Grand County High School in Moab, while DeMille is from Grand County Middle School.

Grand County School District issued the following statement Sunday evening:

“It was with extremely heavy hearts that the staff of the GCSD learned of a devastating car accident sometime this morning involving five GCSD students. At this time, we can confirm that four of the students involved attended Grand County High School, and one student attends Grand County Middle School. Tragically, two of the students passed away, and the other three are seriously injured.”

The School District said counselors will be available on site at both GCMS and GCHS Monday.

“Counselling will also be available at Helen M. Knight Elementary School for any students who need it,” the statement goes on. “It is important that we come together as a community and lean on each other for support.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the students involved, as well as the entire community, as we all mourn the lives that were cut short, and hope for the best for the students that were injured.”

All other details of the accident are still under investigation and will not be released at this time.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts or activities of the those involved in this incident, prior to the crash, is being asked to contact the San Juan County Sheriffs Office on 435-587-2237. Callers may remain anonymous.

    • Paige you probably don’t know the parents or exactly what happened so don’t just assume things like that, it could really be offensive to those who are close to that person.

    • Let’s not be judgy. I know some of the family and they are good people. My heart breaks for them. May God comfort them and their angel.
