MOAB, Utah, Nov. 19, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead and six are injured after a head-on collision in Moab early Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Randy Graymountain, 46, from Fort Defiance, Arizona, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release Sunday afternoon.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at milepost 140 on State Route 191 at approximately 5:45 p.m., the news release said.
A 2015 Nissan Versa was travelling southbound at this location when it crossed the center line, the news release said. A 2014 Chrysler Town and Country was traveling northbound, and the driver attempted to move into the southbound lane to avoid the Nissan. The Nissan then returned to the southbound lane and struck the Chrysler head-on.
The driver of the Nissan, Graymountain, was pronounced dead on scene. The six occupants of the Chrysler were transported to Moab Regional Hospital by ground ambulance. From Moab, three were flown and two were taken by ground ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo. The sixth occupant was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital.
Prior to the crash, witnesses on scene said that the Nissan was driving at a high rate of speed and passing recklessly. Impairment is being investigated as a contributing factor to the crash.
