MOAB, Utah, Sept. 26, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Moab City police arrested a man at a mobile home park after he allegedly pointed a knife at officers while drunk and under the influence of methamphetamine.
A news release from Moab City Police Department on Facebook said the incident occurred on Saturday just before 10 p.m. Moab City officials and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to Grand Oasis at 400 N. 500 West on a report of a disturbance, the news release said.
Upon arrival to the area officers located the subject, Nathaniel Lee, 45, walking away from the location of the disturbance.
“Officers made contact with Lee and observed that he was acting erratically and appeared to be intoxicated,” the news release said. “Lee admitted to consuming ‘a lot’ of alcohol and to using methamphetamine within the last two hours.”
Lee repeatedly put his hands behind his back and into his pockets when officers were talking to him, the news release said.
“Officers were standing in close proximity to Lee and an officer asked him if he had any weapons or illegal contraband in his pockets,” the news release said. “Lee reached into his right pocket and produced a medium-sized kitchen knife, which he held in his hand pointed toward one of the officers. Officers backed away, drew their handguns and gave Lee multiple commands to drop the knife. Lee eventually dropped the knife at his side.”
Officers then attempted to arrest Lee and a brief struggle ensued during which time he was subdued and handcuffed. He received a minor laceration during the struggle and was treated and released prior to transport to the Grand County Jail.
Lee is facing charges of assault, possession of a prohibited weapon, threats against life or property, possession of methamphetamine, interfering or resisting arrest and intoxication.
