MIDVALE, Utah, April 12, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A contractor who allegedly damaged a power line in Midvale Tuesday afternoon has caused more than 1,000 residences and businesses to lose power.

Unified Police Det. Jared Richardson said his office received several calls from the senior center at 7550 S. Main that reported sounds of an explosion.

“We have closed down the area from 7720 South to 7200 South while crews work to repair the damage,” Richardson said.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesperson Paul Murphy said the outage is affecting 1,057 customers in the zip code of 84047.

“We are expecting the power to be out until about 5:30 p.m., but that could change,” Murphy said. “It depends on the extent of the damage.”

The website lists “contractor damaged line” as the reason for the outage, but Murphy was not of sure the exact details.
