Motorcyclist dead in high-speed crash in Provo

PROVO, Utah, Nov. 25, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist was killed, a woman is in the hospital, and the driver of a red Jeep Wrangler is being investigated following a crash on State Street Friday afternoon.

Provo Police Sgt. Brian Taylor said officers were dispatched at 4:18 p.m. to a fatal accident at 2100 S. State St.

When they arrived, they found 38-year-old Jaxen Allred deceased at the scene.

Sgt. Taylor said Allred, who was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle, had been traveling northbound at a high rate of speed, when a red Jeep Wrangler heading south attempted to turn left onto California Avenue. The motorcycle crashed into the Jeep. Allred was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

The Jeep’s driver, John Duncan, did not appear to be seriously injured, Taylor said, but a woman in the passenger seat, Melissa Wilkins, was transported to an area hospital. A 12-year-old boy in the Jeep was uninjured.

Taylor said police are extending their investigation to include a standard DUI investigation on Duncan.
