SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Nov. 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 48-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a minivan that was stopped for a pedestrian on State Street.
Lt. Gregg Carlson, with the South Salt Lake Police Department, told Gephardt Daily the fatal crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m. as a woman was crossing State Street.
Carlson said the area is fairly dark, and the driver of a northbound minivan hit the brakes hard upon realizing that a pedestrian was in the crosswalk.
The motorcycle, which was following behind, crashed into the back of the minivan.
Carlson said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and died either at the hospital or en route in the ambulance. No one else was injured in the crash.
Police were still interviewing witnesses later Saturday evening and were checking for any surveillance video in the area that might show the crash.
Carlson said there is no indication of impaired driving.
The deceased was a Salt Lake Valley resident, but Carlson said no other details are being released pending notification of next of kin.
Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information is made available.
