WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 8, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist was transported to the hospital Monday evening after colliding with a car police say turned in front of him on 4100 South.

Lt. Justin Wyckoff, West Valley City Police Department, said the accident occurred at about 5:46 p.m. at the intersection of 3600 West and 4100 South.

Both vehicles had a green light, but the westbound motorcyclist had the right of way, Wyckoff told Gephardt Daily.

A 30-year-old woman driving a westbound car was making a left-hand turn to go south on 3600 West and said she didn’t see the motorcycle.

The impact of the bike striking the car threw the rider several feet from the motorcycle, Wyckoff said. He was transported to the hospital, and his condition is unknown at this time, but Wyckoff said it appears he was not seriously injured. It wasn’t immediately known if he was wearing a helmet.

The airbags in the car deployed, and the driver suffered minor injures. She was transported to Jordan Valley Hospital.

Wyckoff said police are investigating to determine if impairment or distracted driving were factors in the crash.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes known.
