BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah, Sept. 27, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A local man who died after a motorcycle accident Tuesday afternoon in Big Cottonwood Canyon has been identified.

The deceased is Barry S. Walton, 62, from Taylorsville, the Unified Police Department tweeted Wednesday morning.

“A little after 3 this afternoon we received a call of a traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a single rider,” said UPD Det. Chuck Malm Tuesday. “When our officers arrived on scene, they discovered an adult male was down, and determined that he was deceased on scene.”

It appears Walton was headed down the canyon, traveling west, when for some reason he left the roadway and hit the canyon wall to the north. There is no indication he was wearing a helmet, Malm said.

“It doesn’t appear there were any other vehicles involved in this, and we don’t have any eye witnesses that saw this happen,” Malm said. “We did have some good citizens that stopped and tried to render aid, and called us.”

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol may have been a factor, Malm said, adding that the medical examiner will be able to determine the answer.

Malm urged drivers and riders to ” … pay attention, slow down, be courteous. And if you are riding a motorcycle or bicycle, wear a helmet.”
